Johannesburg, South Africa

Heading south across the equator
Rental Car
Landing in Johannesburg

Better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city.
Proverbs 16:32

Monday April 23 rd ~     Spent the day here at the Nazarene church in Logansport, Indiana packing for the upcoming mission trip.
          Tuesday April 24 th ~
Parked the van at my friends' (Horace & Linda's) house. They are storing it for me while I'm gone. And even took me to Indianapolis Airport (100 miles away). An awesome gift.
The first leg to Atlanta, Georgia. Then (Praise God!) on the nearly full overseas flight to Johannesburg, I ended up with a three row section of seats all to myself. Sweet!
          Wednesday April 25 th ~
Laying scrunched up across these three seats made it possible for me to take a few naps on this fifteen hour flight, which helped a bit. We arrived near sundown local time. The driver (Samuel) from the lodge I'd booked, was waiting at the terminal holding a placard with my name on it and promptly whisked me through this major city (20 minute ride) to my destination. Where the owner surprisingly upgraded me to a slightly nicer/bigger room.
What a blessing to be able to soak in a nice big hot bathtub for a bit.
          Thursday April 26 th ~
Slept very little last night, on & off. My body has been fighting off a cold.
Research online showed most car rentals in my area had negative reviews. But the closest one had good reviews. So, unable to catch up on sleep, I walked towards Thrifty Car Rental, about 2 kilometers away and arranged one for tomorrow.
          Friday April 27 th ~
Rough night. Very little sleep. Coughing, runny nose. Took a taxi to the car rental agency (didn't feel well enough to walk). Made a stop at a nearby store for some bread and cheese. Spent the rest of the day back at the lodge doing the plenty-of-liquids, aspirin and bed rest thing.

Today is a national holiday here: Freedom Day! It celebrates freedom and commemorates the first post-apartheid elections held on April 27 in 1994.

          Saturday April 28 th ~
     Not feeling well at all.
          Sunday April 29 th ~
Had a nice little church picked out online to attend, but decided to not share this cold with them. However, I am feeling a little better today.

And so begins another week.

May The Lord Our God
Guard, Guide And Direct You.
In The Name Of Jesus. Amen!

Your Brother in Christ, Larry Eugene Stevens
