"Have faith in God," Jesus answered. Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins."
Mark 11:22-25

Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.
Philippians 6:14-18

Jesus called them together and said, “You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Mark 10:42-45

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
1 Corinthians 13:4-7

          Monday November 18 th ~
Here in Austin, Texas I published the newsletter from the home of Brother Richard who provided a place to park, plug-in and shower for the past few days. Then drove to north Austin for lunch with David (ministry's technical adviser) who has provided a bunch of printing ink for assembling more Cd's. He even offered a larger television to replace the one he'd given me last year, but I had to stick with the smaller one, due to the space limitations in the van.
Turned west out to Lakeway, Texas in time for Barb's "Home Group/Worship Service/Fellowship Dinner" where I enjoyed the honor of contributing quite a few songs and some thoughts.
          Tuesday November 19 th ~
Ministered at "The Summit of Lakeway" assisted living facility, then continued west to Center Point, Texas.
At the "Trinity" church, there is a double-wide mobile home behind the church which is now used for Sunday morning classes. I've been given the use of those facilities, as well as a room to set-up the T.R.S. (temporary recording studio).

So Satan went out from the presence of the LORD and afflicted Job with painful sores from the soles of his feet to the crown of his head.
Then Job took a piece of broken pottery and scraped himself with it as he sat among the ashes.
His wife said to him, "Are you still maintaining your integrity? Curse God and die!"
He replied, "You are talking like a foolish woman. Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?" In all this, Job did not sin in what he said.

Job 2: 7-10

          Monday November 11 th ~
Ministered at the "Honey Creek Place" assisted living facility in Hico, Texas. Published the newsletter in Hico, then drove south to Austin, Texas.
Visited with a sister and nephew (Janet & Chris) and ran into Joe who offered a place to park and even treated me to dinner.
          Tuesday November 12 th ~
A long lunch with Brother David (Our ministry's technical adviser).
A long talk with Brother George (He's not feeling well, please pray for him).
Then a nice visit with Brother Richard.
          Wednesday November 13 th ~
Sang at the "Monte Siesta Health & Rehab Center" in south Austin.
Last week's discouragement due to the failure to connect in Fort Worth was remedied today by Marty, a fella sent by the folks there in Fort Worth to drop off a gift card for the ministry on his way through Austin. Needless to say, this lifted my Spirit in several ways. May God Bless Them! Turns out, it was simply a case of not checking messages. (I've been there and done that.)
Did an oil change on the van at Richards place, then attended mid-week services at Jubilee Christian Center where I was able to say hi to some old friends.
          Thursday November 14 th ~
Drove east to just outside of Round Top, Texas in time for Don & Sue Ellen's weekly fellowship dinner and Bible study at their country home.
Before dark, I took a walk with their new German Shepard (Lady) up to "Spirit Hill" on the property where I left a little wooden cross tied to a poll which I'd been given in a church back in Lyons, Kansas.
          Friday November 15 th ~
Drove to Yoakum, Texas in time for lunch with some cousins, followed by an afternoon on the front porch in rock'n chairs visiting with Ricci. He and I are almost like twins. First cousins born three days apart.
          Saturday November 16 th ~
Breakfast and some more visiting, culminating with a sweet send-off from Ricci and his dear wife.
Drove to Austin for Sister Sarah's Thanksgiving Christian Singles Party.
          Sunday November 17 th ~
Attended Jubilee. Then a visit with Janet and Chris. Lunch with Rose and Rosy. Some sweet time with a dear family; George, Laura and Kelley. Dropped by "Englewood Estates" to say hi to a resident (Penelope). An awesome lady who along with her husband were medical missionary's to China many years ago.
A quick shower at Richards, then to Sarah's for her monthly Home Group study where I got to share a song.

And so begins another week.

"I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more. But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after your body has been killed, has authority to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him.
Luke 12:4,5

          Monday November 4 th ~
In Glenwood, Arkansas I was able to access the internet at a cheap motel to publish the newsletter.
          Tuesday November 5 th ~
Sang at the "Oak Park Village" retirement center for seven residents here in Glenwood. Then continued west to an Army Corp campground for the night.
          Wednesday November 6 th ~
Crossed the border into Oklahoma to the town of Idabel. Walked into the "Hill Nursing Home" where a small group from the local Methodist church was about to minister. They invited me to join them. The staff made the effort to gather residents, so that we had a sweet time of Praising the Lord.
Afterwards, David (who I found out later is the pastor) told me they had arranged to put me up in a motel for the night. Wow! He then proceeded to invite me to lunch, top off the van's gas tank, and even slipped me a twenty.
The time we were able to spend together in Christian fellowship served to lift my Spirit. What a blessing, to give and receive that "Spiritual Embrace".
          Thursday November 7 th ~
Drove to Hugo, Oklahoma where I was able to minister at the "Baptist Village" nursing home. First in the activity room, before a scheduled Bible Study led by some ladies from a local church, then over to the Alzheimer's Unit for about eight residents.
          Friday November 8 th ~
Crossed the border to Fort Worth, Texas.
I rarely go into major metropolitan areas, mainly because it can be very difficult finding a place to park overnight. That is unless I have a local host/contact. This time I thought one had been provided, but unfortunately it failed to materialize. Then I was denied overnight parking three times, at a Walmart, a truck-stop and a church. Finally, the Spirit led me to an Army Corp of Engineers campground on the southwest outskirts of the city where I was able to settle in for the night after this rather discouraging day. ------- Mountains and Valleys.
          Saturday November 9 th ~
Continued south to the small town of Hico, Texas where I discovered their city park with overnight parking and a heated shower house.
          Sunday November 10 th ~
After showering, I headed out of the park to start looking for a church to attend. As I was leaving, I spotted a fella by the pavilion unloading some gas grills. Stopped to say hi and guess what. Turned out to be a large (60 member) church group scheduled to have a pancake breakfast followed by an outdoor worship service. I got invited to stay, and was even given the honor of sharing a Special and some testimony about the ministry during the service. Lovely group of believers.

And so begins another week.

Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."
Matthew 19:14

          Monday October 28 th ~
Drove twenty miles to Greenwood, Arkansas to publish from their library. Then back to the apartment in Hartford which has been provided for my use for a few days by the folks at the Assembly of God church.
          Tuesday October 29 th ~
Spent time editing "The First Noel".
          Wednesday October 30 th ~
More editing, then attended mid-week services at the church.
          Thursday October 31 st ~
Morning editing, then walked to the Senior Center and joined the folks for lunch.
Back to the apartment where I was able to finish editing "The First Noel". Then walked the two blocks to the town center to hang out for a few hours with some of the church members at the city wide "Trunk-or-Treat".
          Friday November 1 st ~
Packed up. Straightened up. And drove to Greenwood where I was able to minister for a sweet group of folks at the "Pink Bud Nursing Center".
          Saturday November 2 nd ~
Having driven a little bit east into the Ozarks, then south to Nimrod Dam, I spent time visiting with an eighty-one year old (Jim). He is the camp-host at the campground here. I met him last year about this time, which was shortly after his wife had passed. He'd asked me to come back, so I did.
          Sunday November 3 rd ~
Attended the "Oak Bower Church of Christ" in the small hamlet of Bismarck, Arkansas. I was given the honor of sharing some songs during the service. As I sang the last one, a cute little two and a half foot tall girl slid out of the pew and started dancing in the aisle. After I'd finished, she ran down beside me and reached up laying her hand on the guitar. Priceless!

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
Ephesians 6:10-12

          Monday October 21 st ~
In Lyons, Kansas I was able to minister at the "Good Samaritan" nursing home. Arrived early enough to go up and down the hallways with the guitar Strumming-up-business. Including some time in the Alzheimer's Unit.
The staff gathered quite a crowd in their combination Chapel/Activity Room which is a large high-ceiling building addition located in the courtyard between two wings.
I then got over to the library to try and publish. Unfortunately their system was not sufficient. Maybe too slow of a connection or not enough bandwidth. Couldn't publish. Packed up and went over to Wendy's. Their's worked just fine.
Stayed one more night in the city's free campground.
          Tuesday October 22 nd ~
Back on the road headed south southeast.
          Wednesday October 23 rd ~
Sang at the "Riverview Manor" in Oxford, Kansas. They were very encouraging.
          Thursday October 24 th ~
Drove east to a campground outside of Altamont, Kansas where I was able to plug in the heater on this 29 degree night for ten dollars.
          Friday October 25 th ~
Crossed into Oklahoma and sang at the "Eastwood Manor" in the town of Commerce.
Encountered one of the rare instances where the staff caused almost continuous distractions. Over the years I've learned to try and control any mounting anger and simply maintain focus on the mission.
Seems like many of the residents appreciated the effort.
          Saturday October 26 th ~
Continued south across the northeast corner of Oklahoma to the Arkansas border.
          Sunday October 27 th ~
Attended the Assembly of God church in Hartford, Arkansas where I enjoyed the honor of contributing a song during the morning service. Then at evening services I was given the opportunity to share during the traditional sermon time.
These dear folks have provided me with the use of a semi furnished small house (which they call an apartment) across the street from the church.
Be nice to spread out a little for a few days.

And so begins another week.

Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest , and repent. Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.
Revelation 3:19, 20

          Monday October 14 th ~
Published from Old-Timer-Gene's apartment in Wakeeney, Kansas. Then drove east.
          Tuesday October 15 th ~
In LaCrosse, Kansas I sang in the Hospital long term care facility. The AD (Darlene) contacted the pastor of the "First Christian Church" in town who came by and invited me to speak to the youth group they minister to on Wednesday afternoons.
          Wednesday October 16 th ~
Sang at the "Locust Grove Village" nursing home here in LaCrosse just before their exercise time. Then in the afternoon, at the "First Christian Church" I had the privilege of ministering to about 50 kindergarten age children in the sanctuary. What a joy. I only sang a few songs. Mostly I engaged them in question & answer interaction. They were especially enamored with the idea of someone living in a minivan.
Mark (the pastor) told me that the majority of these kids are in families with unbelieving parents. About 10% of them will continue coming to church as they grow older. He said there is one family of kids ranging from a high school senior down to little ones who get themselves dressed and to church every Sunday without their parents help. Praise God!
What an awesome ministry, giving these kids a chance for some Spiritual Root.
          Thursday October 17 th ~
Sang at the "River Bend" assisted living facility in Great Bend, Kansas.
          Friday October 18 th ~
Woke up to a rain/snow mix coming down this morning. Got over to the "Great Bend Health & Rehab Center" where I was able to minister in the Alzheimer's Unit.
          Saturday October 19 th ~
     Day of Rest.
          Sunday October 20 th ~
In Lyons, Kansas I attended the Nazarene church where I was given the opportunity to share a Special. Then settled in for the evening at the town's free campground which also had a Luke-warm to cold shower. Burr!

Sang at the "Blue Valley Lutheran Home" right after Baby Watch.
There is a day-care located in the basement of this facility used primarily by employees of the nearby hospital. For about 45 minutes they bring the babes up to the Great Room and let them play on the floor encircled by residents of the nursing home. What a lovely/heart warming idea.
Continuing south I crossed the border into Kansas to the town of Concordia which has a free campground next to their small airport. Lots of shade trees and electric hookups.
As I was out for a walk, a couple (Craig & Rosann) sitting outside their RV invited me over to ask, "Is your name Larry Stevens? And do you sing in nursing homes?"
Turns out we met two years ago in a facility in Minnesota where they were visiting his mother while I was singing there. Small world.
           Thursday October 10 th ~
Turned west for a little way's to see an old-timer I know.
           Friday October 11 th ~
Arrived in Wakeeney, Kansas in time to minister in the Long Term Care section of the hospital for an appreciative group of residents and staff. Then hooked up with Old-Timer-Gene and spent some time together.
Swung by the Courthouse in town and arranged with Chad (city policeman) to park at the Fairgrounds.
          Saturday October 12 th ~
Spent time with Gene, including watching a University of Texas college football game.
          Sunday October 13 th ~
Attended the "Redline Church of God" with Gene where I was given some time to share in song and testimony. These dear folks slipped me generous love offerings afterward. Sweet!
We joined one of the members (Len) for lunch. Then back to Gene's for some Sunday afternoon football watch'n.

And so begins another week.

While all the people were listening, Jesus said to his disciples, "Beware of the teachers of the law. They like to walk around in flowing robes and love to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces and have the most important seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets. They devour widows' houses and for a show make lengthy prayers. These men will be punished most severely."
Luke 20:45-47

          Monday September 30 th ~
Published from the parsonage of the Methodist church in Kearney, Nebraska. Then rode with Robert (pastor) around town lining up a couple of nursing homes for the next few days.
Did some exploring in the area, then took care of the laundry chore back at the house followed by dinner and Monday Night Football.
          Tuesday October 1 st ~
Got over to the "Cross Road" homeless shelter just after 7:00 in the morning. I'd been invited to speak during their devotion time at 7:30 am. Received a warm/attentive welcome.
Later, over at the "Mother Hull Home" I was given the opportunity to minister for a large group of residents. The AD (Christina) was especially encouraging.
          Wednesday October 2 nd ~
Sang in the Kearney Housing Authority pavilion for a sweet group of folks. Many singing along and making song request. Joined them for lunch afterwards.
          Thursday October 3 rd ~
Said my goodbyes and thank yous and drove a short distance east to a campground where I spent the afternoon resting the arm.
          Friday October 4 th ~
Continued east to Osceola, Nebraska and hooked up with friends' Bill & Jo.
A package arrived for me in the mail today. Sent ahead by our ministry's technical adviser (David). He had deduced that the issue with the primary laptop, which popped up a couple of weeks ago, was the power supply transformer. And sure enough, I plugged in the new one and she booted right up, so we're now back up and running.
          Saturday October 5 th ~
Uploaded the website back into the primary laptop, then republished it for conformity.
Spent the rest of the day in R & R including an ice-pack for the elbow.
          Sunday October 6 th ~
Attended worship services at the Methodist church in town. Then enjoyed an afternoon relaxing at Bill and Jo's.

And so begins another week.

"But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.
Luke 6:27,28

          Monday September 23 rd ~
Lyle and Barb (Deacons at the Willow Bay Baptist Church in American Falls, Idaho ) had invited me to come to their house today to do laundry and publish using their wifi.
Unfortunately the primary laptop chose this moment to stop working. Our technical adviser (David) suspects the power supply transformer. So I pulled out the backup laptop and sent the newsletter off as an email only. Then moved the website over to the backup and got published by mid-afternoon.
          Tuesday September 24 th ~
Drove east south east to Soda Springs, Idaho and sang at the hospital's nursing home. Then over to the "Spring Creek" assisted living facility.
The tennis elbow has improved somewhat over the past month as I've restricted the amount I've used it. But today I might have overdone it.
          Wednesday September 25 th ~
Having crossed into Wyoming, I continued east all the way to Laramie and parked overnight at the "Harvest Christian Center".
          Thursday September 26 th ~
Ministered at the "Ivinson Home" for a few ladies, then crossed the border into Nebraska ahead of a cold front.
As I was driving out of a fast food parking lot, a very angry man accosted me. He was extremely upset about the limiting visibility factor of the curtains in the van. It became immediately apparent that there was no reasoning with this kind of attack. So I simply drove away. He threw out a rather unkind expletive, as a parting shot.
I have no idea what was going on in this mans life to cause such negative emotion, but please pray for him and me as well for anything I might have done to set him off.
          Friday September 27 th ~
Sang at the "Centennial Park" retirement village in North Platte, Nebraska during their devotion time.
          Saturday September 28 th ~
Drove to Kearney, Nebraska and hooked up with Robert (pastor of the Methodist church). Spent the day visiting and enjoying a yummy grilled steak and vegetable dinner.
          Sunday September 29 th ~
Enjoyed the honor of sharing during the traditional sermon time in both morning services, followed by a delicious pot-luck lunch in their fellowship hall.
Joined Robert and his wife Joleen at a downtown theater to watch "Casablanca". Then back to their house for dinner and Sunday Night Football.

And so begins another week.

Website Up and Running

This week's newsletterhttp://www.nursinghomemusicministry.com/9-23-2013.html

September 23, 2013

Greetings,
This week the primary laptop has taken ill.
so there will be a delay on publishing. Below is this week's newsletter (Text Only).

In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did
not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but
made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Philippians 2:5-11

          Monday September 16 th ~
In Winnemucca, Nevada I woke up early in the Walmart parking lot. Went inside for a chocolate covered Bavarian cream filled doughnut. Then got over to the "Harmony Manor" nursing home where I was able to minister for the folks. Shortly after beginning, I noticed a lady in the back of the group in the hallway near the nurses station timidly peeking around the corner. She stood there for a long time and eventually sat down with a nurse until I finished.
As I was leaving, that same nurse wanted me to know that the lady hardly ever leaves her room, but when she heard the gospel music she surprised the staff by coming out. Praise God!
          Tuesday September 17 th ~
Drove to Battle Mountain, Nevada and sang in the nursing home attached to the hospital. Received a warm reception which after an unusually trying day, gave my spirit a much needed lift.
          Wednesday September 18 th ~
Continued into far north Nevada to the "Wild Horse State Recreation Area" and spent the afternoon recovering from yesterday's spiritual trauma; praying fervently for understanding, insight, wisdom and anything else that will help.
          Thursday September 19 th ~
Crossed the border into southern Idaho.
          Friday September 20 th ~
Drove east to the Baptist church in American Falls, Idaho. Arrived in time to help with the preparations for their Saturday Food Bank distribution.
This is a unique situation. A small group who seem to accomplish quite a bit.
Over a year ago a much larger group of Lutherans had split from their parent organization (because they couldn't accept that organizations decision to allow homosexual pastors). They teamed up with this Baptist group to share the building. So on Sundays there are two services; first Lutheran, second Baptist.
          Saturday September 21 st ~
Got a good physical workout helping with the monthly Food Band giveaway, enjoying the opportunity to spend time with others while doing some good.
          Sunday September 22 nd ~
Attended the first (Lutheran) service, then the second (Baptist) which gave me the honor of leading the song service. Lunch out with one of the couples, then again during evening (Baptist) service I enjoyed the opportunity to share a bunch of songs.

And so begins another week.

Guard, Guide And Direct You.
